Benefits of Using Engineered Products in Corian®
Non-porous – Because of the non-porous characteristics of Corian®, the surface is easier to clean and will not promote the growth of mold, mildew, bacteria, and infectious organisms making it ideal for biomedical, medical devices and equipment, and food processing equipment manufacturing.
Easily renewed – Because the surface can be renewed by easily removing surface scratches and stains, Corian® continues to look stunning long after other materials require replacement – giving your product long-term value for the investment.
Stain-resistant – Corian® can be easily cleaned of stains and contaminants – resulting in superior durability for high-use applications.
Heat and scratch-resistant – Corian® stays looking new even in tough environments.
Ease of processing and manufacturing – Because of the properties of Corian®, it can easily be thermoformed, bonded, milled, carved, and routed.
Seamless surfaces – By utilizing Corian® adhesive, Corian® components can be seamed together to make the final product have a smooth, continuous surface if required. These inconspicuous, non-porous seams prevent the buildup of trapped dirt and other particles that may harbor mold, mildew, bacteria, and infectious organisms.
Nonflammable – Class 1 Fire Rating or better – Corian® solid surface has been evaluated in accordance with ANSI/UL Standard 723 – Test for Surface Burning Characteristics (ASTW E84) by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.
Initial and life cycle cost-effectiveness – Engineered Products in Corian® offer better initial design/development costs and faster product implementation. Generally, products can be manufactured directly from CAD files so there is virtually no expensive up-front tooling costs. Plus, prototype and beta designs can be brought to market much faster due to the manufacturing capabilities of Corian®. Corian® also facilitates rapid design changes while the product is in the early stages of development, eliminating expensive tooling re-design costs.
Superior surface finishes – Corian® can be finished to a matte, semi-gloss, or high gloss finish to either reduce or enhance surface reflectivity and glare. In addition, Corian® is available in more than 100 colors, so you can choose optimal surface and finish properties based on your final design. Due to the manufacturing properties of Corian®, it is also an ideal material for adding chamfers, grooves, lettering/logos, and other design details to the completed product.
Translucency of Engineered Products in Corian® – Many colors of Corian® have translucent properties so that LED, fiber optic, and other lighting features can be added to the surface for design or operator communication aspects.
NSF/ANSI 51 Certified for food contact – Because Corian® is non-porous, stains and bacteria do not penetrate the surface. With proper cleaning, Corian® also resists the growth of mold, mildew, and infectious organisms making it an ideal material for food service equipment.
Ultraviolet (UV) stable – Many colors of Corian® are UV-stable under interior and exterior environmental lighting, preventing yellowing that occurs with other polymer materials.
Solvent/Chemical resistant – In the chart on the following page, you can see the solvent and chemical resistance properties of Corian®.
